Why Divorce?
Why are so many marriages falling apart today? There are a thousand reasons given for this strange phenomenon that is occurring in the U.S. today. Did you know that the divorce rate in the U.S. is #1 in the Western World – not a race worth winning is it? So, here’s my theory on why marriages, especially in Christian households, are such a travesty in the U.S. My hubby and I got into an argument last night over schedules – his vs. mine. Ever have one of those boxing matches? MY calendar says THIS vs. I TOLD you what WE were doing tonight. Uggh. Then, the snide comments begin and it ends with slammed car doors, confused children and questioning thoughts on the part of mommy and daddy. Questions such as: “Why won’t he just listen to me?” or “Why does she think her way is the ONLY way?” or “Good grief Lord – I’m so tired of this – will you just teach that man how to take care of me the way I need?” Ding, ding, ding. That last one is the kicker. We think we’ve married the love of our life, our soul mate, our best friend. WRONG. The love of our lives, our soul mate, our best friend should be the lover of OUR soul – Jesus. When we put all those titles on mere men we are setting them (and ourselves) up for failure. We all do it – we’ve all said it and we must, as mature Christian women, stop this charade in order to bless our children with successful future marriages. Seriously, imagine if all your expectations, needs, wants and desires were put into the hands of the Creator who can do something with them?! Our world and the world around us would radically change because the right order would be in place. Imagine with me the freedom that your husband would find if you left GOD to deal with his “issues” while you go to Him in prayer about your “issues.” Wow. It’s a radical, yet simple thought. Let’s choose today sisters to focus on the PLANK that is in our own eye because you see, if you try to remove that plank all on your own you will die, but with the help and love of your Soul Mate, Best Friend, and Love of your Life it will get better. That man that lives in your house – expecting him to fix it all is like asking a baby to perform open heart surgery. Not gonna happen girlfriend – turn to Jesus – I think we all know what He can do with a broken heart.
